Description
Taken about 15 miles north of Silverthorne, Colorado on Highway 9. I had gone about a mile east along Ute Pass to take this photo. Magnificent mountain range. Snow stays on the high peaks up until July. Still some patches of snow even into August.
Summit County has 4 major ski resorts, Keystone, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain. Loveland basin is close by and so is Vail and Beaver Creek. During the summer months, Lake Dillon provides lots of water activities. There is a Marina on the Frisco side and another one on the Dillon Side. At 9,000 ft., they are the highest marinas in the United States. All of Summit County has lots of bike and hiking trails. Camping and fishing also draw tourist in the summer. Though there are about 25,000 to 35,000 year round residents, tourist raise the population to 100,000 on key ski season dates and best summer dates.
In late September there is another Gold Rush to these old mining towns. People come up just to see the Aspen Gold as they change into fall colors. Aspen are prevalent and their golden yellow colors contrast well with the Pine Trees and the Bluebird Skies.
