Description
Hudson Gardens is a Botanical Garden in Littleton, Colorado. They have grown Victoria Lilies in their lake for several years. Now they have a pond made especially for the Victorias. The Victory Lily is native to the upper stretches of the Amazon River. It is very susceptible to temperature. The plant will die once the water temperature drops below 72 degrees. This pond is dyed dark so the water will absorb more heat. The pond is also shallow to hold allow it to heat up more than it would in the lake environment.
The Victoria is a night bloomer. I feel very fortunate to capture it in the morning light before it closed up for the day.
