In the summer of 2009, we spent nearly three months in Florida helping our son out. While there, we discovered the artwork of the Florida Highwaymen. They were a group of Black Artist that began painting Florida Scenery in the 1950's and 60's. They painted in Oils on Upson Board (similar to masonite board) and sold their artwork out of their cars along the highways of Florida. Once I saw their artwork in various galleries, I began to search out Florida Scenery that was similar to what these artists painted. Most were rural scenes along lakes, rivers, swamps and the ocean.
